Academic Integrity Policy

Fingerprint is a writing aid, not a ghostwriter. This policy says plainly what we are for, what we are not for, and where your responsibility begins.

Our position

We built Fingerprint to help you become a better writer, not to write for you. The tool analyzes how you write and produces a starting draft in your voice — a draft you are expected to review, revise, and make your own before you use it. Anything generated by AI is a starting point, not finished work.

We do not sell finished work for submission, and we do not help you pass off AI-generated text as your own. If you are looking for a service that does your assignment for you, that is not this product, and it is not us.

What the tool does

• Helps you develop your writing voice by learning from your own past writing.
• Generates a working draft based on your writing style, as a starting point for your review and revision.
• Prepares study aids from your own course material — a practice exam, a reading pack, worked homework, and a printable study sheet you can revise from. A sheet is built from the course material you have connected, it states what it left out, and it is never built from a practice exam's answer key.
• Organizes your course context — deadlines, readings, and assignments — so you can plan your own work.
• Provides an AI-detection report for generated drafts and saved edited versions, so you can see the detector's signals about that exact text.

Study sheets and permitted aids

Fingerprint can prepare a printable study sheet from a student's own course material. A study sheet is a study aid, not a permitted aid. Whether you may bring notes — printed, handwritten or any other kind — into an exam is your institution's, your course's and your instructor's decision, and it is yours to check and follow. Fingerprint is not affiliated with your school and does not authorize, encourage or advise bringing any material into an assessment.

Where the course's own material says notes are not allowed, Fingerprint says so rather than hiding it: it will tell you what the item says, and it will still offer to build you a sheet to revise from. Whether you take it into the room is your call and your responsibility.

What you are responsible for

• You review, revise, and make every draft your own. Our product requires a substantive review-and-revise step before product Copy/Export of that exact version. Editing or regenerating requires a new review. Edits do not make AI use permitted where it is forbidden. Submitting AI-generated text as your own may violate your institution's academic-integrity policy and may violate applicable law.
• You decide whether to use AI at all. If your instructor or institution says an assignment must be completed without AI, that instruction is yours to follow. Fingerprint is not affiliated with your school and does not authorize or encourage submitting AI-generated work as your own.
• You follow your institution's rules. Academic-integrity and acceptable-use policies differ by school, course, and instructor. You are responsible for knowing and following the ones that apply to you.
• You check what you are allowed to bring in. A prepared study sheet is material you revise from. Taking it into an exam is permitted only where your course says notes are permitted, and that is a question for your instructor — not for this tool.

The detector: honesty, not evasion

Fingerprint's detection feature exists for honesty, not for evading detection:

• Detector results are signals, not proof of authorship or misconduct.
• We never help you modify a draft to evade AI detection, and we do not market the product that way. Optimizing output to hide AI authorship is academic dishonesty, not a feature.
• If an assignment forbids AI, our tool surfaces that honestly rather than hiding it. The choice — and the responsibility — stays with you.

What we will not do

• We will not sell, prepare, or market finished academic work for submission.
• We will not help you evade AI detection or instructor oversight.
• Fingerprint does not submit or upload assignments on your behalf and does not write Canvas calendar events. You submit independently in Canvas.
• We will not represent AI-generated text as your original work.

How the product enforces this

These are built into the product, not just written here:

1. Human review is mandatory. A draft is an editable "review and make it yours" step, and your revisions are recorded before a draft can be finalized.
2. Copy/Export uses the exact reviewed version. Fingerprint never uploads or submits it. Ordinary Canvas sync reads accepted submission status to remove completed assignments from active due work; opening Canvas or uploading a file does not prove submission.
3. The detector is decoupled from drafting. It reports honestly what a detector would say; it is never a tool for scrubbing text.
